Thank You to The Girls Scouts in Enfield, CT

4 Wonderful Girl Scouts Volunteered the entire day at the soup kitchen. They worked very hard. Peeling potatoes and carrots, cutting up pastries and arranging them on plates. The organized our can items as they came in.

They were so helpful in setting the table, serving dinner, and cleaning. The girls were great and so helpful! We really appreciate your kindness and great attitudes.

THE JOY OF GIVING - Fall brought drastic variations in temperatures this year, and summer has Secretly slipped away. Enfield Loaves and Fishes is asking again for your kind generosity as the Holiday Season and colder weather rapidly approach with this end of the year appeal letter.
While "Hunger Has No Season", we remember the working poor, the unemployed, and the homeless in this season when compassion and love are celebrated around the World. As Work hours were cut back, some businesses shuttered, or worst relocated out of state. Without a job, many of our friends and neighbors had to turn to the Soup Kitchen for help.
While Moms and Dads see their work hours reduced, demands on the Soup Kitchen to provide meals increases. In the past year, we have served over 128,101 meals, of which nearly 36% were to children alone. Loaves and Fishes collaborated with Educational Resources for Children by supplying 108,116 snacks for eight schools with programs located at five sites, an increase nearly doubling that of last year. The equivalent of 42,798 meals were also provided to families in emergency situations. These numbers are sobering in a country of such prosperity and abundance of food.
Long range weather predictions indicate that this winter will be a little colder than last year, with significantly more snowfall in mid to late winter. Oil prices have risen recently due to hurricanes, and the demand for heating oil in colder weather invariably causes a spike in costs. Please remember those less fortunate among us who constantly struggle with choices between food, health care, medicine, housing, and heat. While the economy is struggling, the demand on the Soup Kitchen is increasing every day.
This year, please consider Enfield Loaves and Fishes in your plans for charitable gift-giving. Your gift is a crucial part of our year-round Commitment to feeding the hungry in our community and from surrounding towns. Since we are also a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, your donation is tax-deductible. We are wholly dependent on private donations as well as the surrounding business community in Order to Survive. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Murray Brayson, President

Gift of Giving | Enfield Loaves and Fishes

“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”
― Charles Dickens

Give the Gift of Giving this year in the Enfield, CT area by donating to Enfield Loaves and Fishes. Giving to others increases the capacity to love. Even if you don't have much, sharing with others will enrich your life. Research shows that generosity positively affects our health. An article in US News discusses how philanthropy "doles out several different happiness chemicals" in your brain. Philanthropy comes with perks!

Giving releases dopamine and endorphins that give you a sense of euphoria. Regular giving to others in need will give you a sense of belonging, and inner peace.

You Become Part of The Bigger Picture

You may not be able to donate much, but remember, you become part of the bigger picture. Donations are combined so that they meet the goal of helping others. Donations of time, money, or items, it doesn't matter, at some point someone will be in need and appreciate the gift. And a gift it is. To both you and the recipient. Be grateful that you have food to eat, clean water to drink and a place to live.

Share the Gift of Giving

Giving in the name of another spreads the good feeling. It engages others to take a look at their donation habits and encourages them to give and feel good. You are spreading the good feeling and the sense of belonging.

Here at Enfield Loaves & Fishes we not only feed the hungry, we encourage those in need to see the good in our community and become part of the bigger picture. Many of those we have helped return to help others. Our mission is to provide meals and fellowship to the poor, hungry and disenfranchised within our community. This simple act had developed into a large cycle of giving. More than providing food, anyone can ask for help in any area and we do our best to make sure their needs are met. By doing this, those in need become those who assist others in need.

Generosity comes with Advantages

Both the giver and receiver benefit, it's as simple as that. So please take the time to make a donation of any kind to Enfield Loaves and Fishes and make yourself and someone else feel good.
